The Genetics, Physiology, and Aquaculture program of the Fisheries Resources Division at the Southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC) conducts research to promote sustainable fisheries. This position will manage and maintain fisheries data sets in an enterprise Oracle database and provide support to customers and end users of the database. It will also reconcile, compile, and summarize catch, effort, landings, and fish size information from multiple commercial and recreational fisheries data sources. Additional support will include providing programming support for generating reports, data products, and web application services. This position will also work with programmers, data managers, and customers to optimize access to data and the generation of data products. Information Systems Specialist- Fisheries Monitoring Data Management Services
Ocean Associates, Inc. (OAI) is seeking an Information Systems Specialist to provide support to the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). The Fisheries Monitoring Group at the Southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC) is responsible for collecting, managing and reporting information from U.S. commercial and recreational fisheries that target highly migratory species (HMS) in the Pacific Ocean. Timely processing of raw data received from fishermen, observers, industry and samplers is part of the foundation that supports the management and reporting of these data. This position will oversee the processing of HMS fisheries information delivered to, managed, and disseminated by the Fisheries Monitoring Group amongst other data tracking, reporting, and support activities.

Scientist - FRD Plankton Sorter
Ocean Associates, Inc. (OAI) is seeking a Scientist to provide support to the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). A scientist is needed to provide technical support for the Ichthyoplankton Ecology Program (IEP) in the Fisheries Resources Division (FRD) of Southwest Fisheries Science Center. The IEP analyzes plankton samples collected during CalCOFI and FRD research cruises to provide data on fish eggs and larvae and cephalopod paralarvae that are used to support biomass assessments, Integrated Ecosystem Assessment, and ecological and taxonomic studies. Lobster larvae also are sorted from the plankton samples and provided to California Department of Fish and Wildlife and Scripps Institution of Oceanography scientists in support of state management of that species. The IEP supports FRD plankton and trawling research cruises as needed by providing personnel to serve as members of scientific crews aboard ship. The incumbent’s primary laboratory task is to remove ichthyoplankton, cephalopod paralarvae, and lobster larvae, and to identify major target fish species, from CalCOFI and other SWFSC Bongo, Manta and Pairovet plankton collections.

Scientist - Marine Mammal Hormone Research
Ocean Associates, Inc. (OAI) is seeking a Scientist to provide support to the NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science (SWFSC),Marine Mammal & Turtle Division (MMTD). Scientists at MMTD/SWFSC conduct research on marine mammals to assess health, which is a key part of diagnosing and understanding population trends. To assess physiological and individual health, MMTD/SWFSC evaluates hormone levels in tissue samples from free-ranging marine mammals and examine stranded animals to diagnose the cause of death and other health issues.
