Field Research Leader 2 -Fish Culturist
Ocean Associates, Inc. (OAI) is seeking a Field Research Leader/Fish Culturist to provide support to the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Alaska Fisheries Science Center. Most of the work will be done at a remote field station, Little Port Walter (LPW), on Baranof Island. OAI supplies personnel support services on contract to government and industry clients for marine fisheries and protected species. This person filling this position will be aiding NOAA biologists in collecting and processing samples and data aimed at supporting and evaluating research conducted at the LPW Marine Station.

Natural Resource Specialist 3 - ESA Support
Ocean Associates, Inc. (OAI) is seeking a Natural Resources Specialist III – ESA Support to provide support to the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) West Coast Regional Office, at their Snake Basin Office in Boise, ID. OAI supplies personnel support services on contract to government and industry clients for marine fisheries and protected species. This is a position to provide support to existing experienced consultation biologists by completing some of the more routine consultations, thus allowing senior staff to work on more complex problems that are not adequately staffed currently. The more complex projects include addressing irrigation diversion consultations in the Upper Salmon and grazing allotment consultations on the Wallowa Whitman Forest which are both subject to impending litigation. The Contractor may also provide support for large collaborative forestry projects on the Wallowa Whitman and Nez Perce/Clearwater Forest.

Technical Program Assistant 1
Ocean Associates, Inc. (OAI) is seeking a Technical Program Assistant I to provide support to the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC), in Juneau, AK. This is a one-year position with three additional option periods, to assist with planning and coordination for the Gulf Watch Alaska (GWA) long-term ecosystem monitoring program. The work will involve serving as a Technical Program Assistant to facilitate program activities, goals, and deliverables. Tasks include assisting the GWA Program Lead and Science Coordinator with program coordination, communication, and program deliverables (e.g. reporting, work plans, publications, and outreach). The contractor shall also assist coordination of the GWA program activities with the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council, the Herring Monitoring and Research (HRM) program, NOAA offices, and other federal and state agencies and organizations. Services can be provided remotely but within the state of Alaska, with occasional work at Auke Bay Laboratories as needed, or from other locations with prior agreement. Biological Technician 4-Sea Water Lab Support
Ocean Associates, Inc. (OAI) is seeking a Biological Technician to provide support to the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC), in Kodiak, AK. This is a position to support research aimed at developing culturing techniques for crustaceans. The work will involve daily upkeep of a seawater laboratory facility and animal care at that facility, as well as assisting with the set up and running of experiments examining the effects of ocean acidification on Alaskan crab species. In addition, this position will involve assisting with routine seawater monitoring in the facility, and will also assist with the collection of crab data in field work. This is an excellent opportunity for a person with good laboratory and animal care skills to work with important fishery species, and to live in Kodiak, AK.

Fisheries Research Scientist 1

This is an approximately one year position to conduct research that will provide a basis for identifying hatchery actions that may be used to support the recovery of Southern resident killer whales. Wildlife Toxicologist
OAI is looking for a candidate with expertise in wildlife toxicology and familiarity with mixing zones for municipal and industrial point source wastewater outfalls. Candidates should have familiarity with the body of literature on effects of anthropogenic pollutants on wildlife, particularly marine mammals. Candidates should be able to critically review a biological assessment for mixing zones in Cook Inlet, Alaska, and be able to advise staff on whether a submitted biological assessment is sufficient. If not, candidate should be able to identify what additional information is needed to make an effects determination for Cook Inlet beluga whales and their designated critical habitat.

Scientist 8 - Marine Fish Culture: Effects of Oil on Early Life Stages of Pacific Herring

Fieldwork in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands to remove predatory Galapagos sharks at Hawaiian monk seal pupping sites at French Frigate Shoals. Assistants will capture sharks using a variety of techniques, mitigate monk seal mortality, collect biological samples and produce written documents in support of monk seal research efforts. Work will be at French Frigate Shoals, on the NOAA Research Vessel Oscar Elton Sette and at NMFS Facilities in Honolulu. Deployment in the NWHI will be from about 6/10/2010 – 8/23/2010.
